Marrying a Russian Woman: First Hand(-on-Heart) Advice

We're sure you've been interested in reading some first hand recommendations on marrying a Russian woman since you started your wife-hunting epopee. Now that the hunting season is over for you and you're ready to 'settle down', this advice will be more than necessary for you. That's why we decided to ask out James, an American businessman, about his Russian wife Lena and present his story to you.

James is 41 years old. He had been married to an American doctor for ten years before he got divorced when he was 37. He started dating, however, women his age (in their 40's) didn't fit him since he wanted children. Younger American women he met seemed so immature and way too careless to create a family with.

Once James went to Russia on business and – naturally – didn't miss an opportunity to date some Russian women. He was so impressed with the culture and mindset of Russian women that he seriously started considering marrying a Russian. His present wife was only 17 when they met. At first it shied away James greatly, however, through communication, he realized age was only a number, a tag – when it's about Russian women that is. James quickly fell in love with Lena (his Russian wife's name) and they got married. 'She is the anchor to my day, the love of my life,' James says. He couldn't be happier. He didn't know what he was missing until he had it.

It's understandable that different things happen and sometimes these marriages don't have such a perfect outcome. However, in most cases, foreign men are very happy with their young, beautiful, intelligent Russian wives.

Positive information is good, however, we asked James to give us the downside of the whole dating thing – the way he sees it that is. Pay special attention to his very useful advice as well.

According to James, Russian women who join dating agencies are typically educated, smart, capable women. They do count on relying on their future men but they're more than able to contribute to the family.

'However, marrying a Russian woman is not an easy task you're undertaking', - says James. 'It's much easier to marry someone next door. Don't let any spammers fool you. Mail can be iffy and slow, you may wait quite long for a reply to your message since ladies (who are also non-native speakers) usually have many eager male contactees. Telephones can be down, dealing with new virtual technologies is not always a face-to-face conversation. Language and cultural differences can cause many difficulties as well'.

James also told us about the cost issue. No matter how you organize your wife-hunting, it's going to cost a lot of money, he says. Doesn't matter if your lady comes to visit you or vice versa, there will be plane, tickets, phone bills etc.

Taking all the above mentioned serious difficulties into consideration you can come up with a very logical question: Why should anyone want to marry a Russian? James has his own answer to it:

'Cultural differences also reflect some great characteristics of Russian women', says James. 'They tend to be very family-oriented and marriage-minded, American women are not like that at all. Russian women believe that men and women have different roles in the society, and they accept it in a very wise way (unlike American women)'.

James states that Russian ladies are less materialistic. 'As long as they have roofs over their heads and a car (surprising enough, isn't it?), that is enough.' James says Russian women are very adaptable. Once they get over the first stages of home sickness, they are ready to live their brand new lives, he states.

James is very happy with Lena, she is his best friend, his lover and his partner, she's an answer to all his prayers.

As you can see, James presented both positive and negative thoughts on Marrying-a-Russian-Lady subject. He never said every Russian woman is a heaven-sent answer to all your prayers and concentrated on the idea that if you are willing to go into this with your eyes open – you will reach success.
