The Way Russian Women See You

A lot of stereotypes and myths surround the way foreigners are usually seen through the eyes of their potential wives. Some of them have their true to life flavour, some are totally absurd.

To be honest, out of a great amount of stereotypes about foreigners that exist in Russia, only one makes Russian women look for somebody so far away from their motherland. And it's about foreign men being honest, stable, faithful, serious, kind and reliable. They hardly ever drink or smoke or abuse their wives, they love kids. Living with them is stable and secure. Sounds so pleasant, doesn't it? Don't get too flattered sine most of other Russian stereotypes about foreigners (mostly widely-spread by Russian men) are not so pleasant.

For instance, one of the negative Russian stereotypes about foreigners is that they are narrow-minded, loud and arrogant (especially Americans). Some say foreigners are always smiling, without any reason. Sometimes even mass media state that foreign men are looking for free housekeepers to look after them and their children. There are documentaries about foreign men who turn out to be sexual maniacs or crazy psychos when they successfully marry their poor Russian preys. The latter myth is based on a few stories about foreign marriages that hit the news – the fact that neither Russian nor foreign media treat the whole affair positively is well-known.

Definitely, all these negative thoughts are unpleasant and mostly based on gross exaggeration of the real facts. For instance, the so-called 'wooden-headedness' originated from desire of some foreigners to develop their skills in a certain sphere only in order to become 100% professionals there (as opposed to Russian idea of multi-spherical education). 'Constant' smile is an exaggeration of foreigners' desire not to 'share' their current bad mood with strangers (strangers don't give a damn about others' problems so why not smile your moodiness away for them). As you can see, some of the stereotypes show a slightly distorted view on things.

Actually, Russian women don't look for something special in a man, all you gotta do is just be normal and i.e. be yourself. Their perfect type of a foreign bridegroom is an educated gentleman who has stable secure job, doesn't drink and preferably doesn't smoke.

Russian men try to pursue sexual relationships with as many females as possible. It contributes to their image of real men, they think. They are very spoiled by realization of the fact that they are surrounded by great amount of beautiful lonely women. Such approach certainly doesn't feel appealing to most Russian women, that's why they also tend to see foreigners as very decent men.

Now you know that you look not so bad in the beautiful eyes of your future dream woman, don't hesitate to discuss the whole hilarious matter regarding stereotypes and exaggerations with her! Neither of us is perfect but when we strive to become better in order to be loved and cherished by another person, we get very close to perfection.
